  • Trying to do a specific transition, and why does my preview window lag?

Ok I’m fairly new to Sony Vegas 8 but I think I have a hang of most of it.

I’m trying to replicate a specific transition, here’s an example at 0:11 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FkuQg8G6SB8
It’s kind of a merging blur thing, looks pretty coo.

The other question is why does my preview window lag so hard when I start adding any effects to my videos (including MBL)? I have a very fast PC and would of thought it could handle this.

Is there something I need to tweak or it this normal?

    Thanks for the help.

Yes. Vegas is a CPU based program, until pro 10 comes out. You can set your preview window to preview, auto to get a faster frame rates for priview. For full quality preview areas, you can set the loop area for it and under tools. is a preview in player option to see that part rendered. Keyframing track motion like in your sample, requires every pixel to be created in each frame, thus it will give you less FPS in your preview window. Hope this helps, Danny Hays

Looks like a simple Push transition. Check the “push off previous image” box. Then key frame a touch of Gaussian Blur during the transition.

Here is a sample I did for a transition title. Also added a few frames of motion blur.

As for the preview speed this is what Ctrl-B ram rendering is for.

The more pixels the effect is changing the more the CPU is crunching numbers to get full preview and it comes to a point where it can’t keep up real time preview with FX. MBL is a CPU KILLER try to never preview with it.
