So I have a .mov in my Adobe Premier and I want to export it to a FLV file with 600 pixels horizontally. I was wondering how I change this? Once I go to export there is a selection that says “Resize video” and in the selection it says frame width (pixels). Now if I change it here I was told that this changed the size of the aspect ratio of the video. Is there another way to change the pixels or is this the place to do it? Sorry I am a FCP and Avid user, Adobe is all new to me. Thank you for any insight.

Is your video 16:9 or 4:3?

First, a multiple of 16 is recommended for best compression quality.

But if you need to find the corresponding vertical resolution for 600.

    16:9 (widescreen) 600/16*9= 338

    4:3 (SD) 600/4*3=450

I’m not sure what version of Premiere you have, but in the export settings you should be able to check “Constrain width and height”, and that should fill in the other dimension for you according to the original aspect ratio.

So your resolution will be 600 x 450 / “square pixels”.

Look at the output pan as well to make sure that you are not getting bars.

That was my problem, the web guy that I am working with is saying that I have bars. So how do I get rid of that issue?

I am assuming this is an NTSC DV 4:3 project here.

On the top left of your source window, hit the crop tool, and set left and right to 8 pixels. That’s because a web export uses the production frame, not the active pixels you would see on a television.

That step is not needed for exports from HD.

Double check that your resolution is set to 600 x 450. Switch to the output pan and the bars should be gone.

If the web guy still sees bars, he needs to fix the dimension on his end, possibly taking into account a control bar.

Let me know if that doesn’t work out.
