I’m having a problem making a dvd of a widescreen movie I made using Final Cut Express HD. The movie is standard dv, shot and edited in 16:9. I export the movie as a quicktime.mov and use iDVD5 to make the DVD’s (according to apple iDVD5 has support for 16:9, although I can find no commentary on this problem from apple). The dvd plays fine on my widescreen TV but on a standard 4:3 there is no letterboxing. The movie shows fullscreen, hence it looks squashed. My understanding is that if the dvd is made properly, it should play letterboxed top & bottom on a standard TV. I’m thinking that the quicktime mov. is not being tagged as widscreen? Will I have to upgrade to Final Cut Pro or perhaps DVDPro to get this result? Neither Final Cut expres nor iDVD5 have any place to tag this project/dvd as 16:9. Any Suggestions? Thanks

Don’t know much about iDVD but yes DVDSP can handle 16:9 display properly.

I’ve had several clients bring in mpeg2 files for me to author as 16:9
because iDVD would not flag the content properly and letterbox
    the material on 4:3 projects.

I thought it would have been fixed by 5.0 but I guess not.
