I am trying to create a credit roll from a Word document while maintaining the formatting that was in the original file. I am not using any weird fonts, just Times New Roman. Desperate for a solution. Thanks in advance.

Sorry, but Word is awful. Nasty. It really doesn’t play well with other apps. I wouldn’t bet a nickel that AE would be able to read its formatting.

But … try saving the Word doc as a PDF. Import that into AE. I can’t guarantee that the text would be editable in AE, though.

If that doesn’t work, you should copy the Word text, then paste and reformat in Illustrator, then import that AI file into AE. You might have to go back and convert text to outlines in Illustrator. Be sure to save a copy before doing that.
