    I am having difficulty adding, some .AVI files to the timeline, usually i would open up the folder and drag the video file into sony vegas manually and drop it on the timeline, but for some reason, on certain .avi files, when i try drag and drop, it wont let me, my mouse turns to a black stop sign [circle with line through it]. I tried clicking “File > Import > Media” I selected my file, then it was in the project media dialog and i still cant add it, when I right click it and goto properties, it says “Attributes: (Stream Offline) and I can import some other .avi files and it works fine.

    Its so dam confusing, and I need to get this done.

    Download a copy of GSpot and open your AVI files in it to determine what CODEC the file uses and if the that CODEC is installed on your PC. Chances are for this particular AVI file you don’t have the CODEC installed. You’ll need to install the proper CODEC before Vegas will be able to read the video in the file.
