  • Trouble with 4:4:4 output from Sony SRW-5000

I have a Sony SRW-5000 VTR that has worked fine to capture a number of tapes so far, but just tried my first 4:4:4SQ tape and something is wrong. It does have both the HKSR-5001 and 5003 boards installed. As you can see in the attached photos, the preview on the deck’s screen looks fine but the actual video output is completely different and discolored (maybe just missing an entire color channel?).

Setup: From the deck I’m going dual-link HD SDI to a Teranex Mini Quad SDI to 12G-SDI Converter, which is then going single-link SDI to a DeckLink Mini Recorder 4K card.

I’ve tried many different hardware and software configurations and all have the same or worse results, so the problem really seems to be pointing at the deck itself. I’ve also opened it up, examined all the boards and confirmed the internal coax connections — Everything seems to be fine and properly installed. This unit was previously owned and maintained by a big studio.

I would just go with the 4:2:2 format conversion output, but that seems to be dead. I get no video signal and just noisy randomly bouncing needles for the audio.

Thanks in advance for any help I can get!
