We have had trouble with reconnecting some media in Final Cut 6.0.1.

The project seemed to lose its association with some files in the sequence, even though the files were still there.

I tried to reconnect to exact copies of the file, as well as the originals, and it did not recognise them using “locate”, even under “all files”.

In the end I dragged in the self-same files and they worked fine.

I shut FCP and even rebooted the G5 in the end without any success. Has anyone else had this problem with FCP losing its association to files and then refusing to recognise perfectly good files on reconnection. If so any suggestions would be much appreicated.

    I’ve had that problem also.

I’m not really sure why it happens. But it happened to me alot this summer when i was working on 2 different computers, using up to 8 different external HD’s which held all of the files. We would be switching HD’s pretty regularly, and I think that is what would make the clips become offline. Even when the correct drive was mounted, the clips would sometimes still be offline. And like you said, sometimes it wouldn’t recognize the file to reconnect, even when I am staring at it in a Finder window, FCP would still sometimes not recognize it. ?

Sorry I can’t help much, but avoid switching hard drives around unless necessary, and avoid moving files around on your HD, as that can confuse some programs and not allow them to find the file that used to be in a certain spot.

    Cheers,
