Hi. I’ve got a big image of a chart in my final cut pro project.

I want to camera to pan around all over the chart, so I set a bunch of motion keyframes for it, but when it moves from keyframe to keyframe, it does this:

It’s like it’s splitting the frame in two. This happens for fast moves and slow moves. I tried turning off frame blending but I guess that’s not what it is because it didn’t change anything.

How can I get it so it just fills in the frames while keeping the image stable? I had this same problem with a much shorter, simpler clip of moving a camera across a photo. My solution was to re-do the keyframing in flash, and flash had nice smooth motion without this splitting effect. This new one has way more keyframes, and I’m wondering if there’s a setting or filter that I need to get smooth motion from a still image?

You’re seeing interlacing. It’s too hard to explain in this little posty and your FCP manuals include a huge section on video fundamentals. Your timeline is set to an interlaced format and you are viewing the output of the timeline on a progressive monitor. If you were to view the interlaced video on an interlaced video monitor, you would notice that the motion is buttery smooth because you’re seeing your motion divided up into 60 discrete (half resolution) slices, called fields, instead of 30 full frames.
