November 17, 2011 at 6:28 pmI created and XML 4 file from a fcp 7.0 project to import xml into fcp 6.0. It said there were some “uncritical errors” and that there was a defocus filter used that my graphics card does not support I answered ok. The only other issue is that the codec for all the media was Apple ProRes 422 1280x720p (LT) my computer i’m running 6.0 on doesn’t have that the (LT) version of that Apple ProRes. Just the standard
Anyway all this said once I import it says the project is open but there is now browser, no sequences, no bins! Nothing.

March 6, 2012 at 6:46 pmI had the exact same problem and this fixed it, simply using TextEdit to change the “5” to a “4” in the opening line allowed FCP 6 to open and import the file properly.
Thank you for this very helpful suggestion.

February 20, 2016 at 10:58 pmI just had this same problem (trying to import an xml from FCP7 to FCP6). Unfortunately when I opened up textedit the “xmemlversion” was ALREADY set to 4. So that wasn’t the issue. I even went through the textedit and changed all the “version 7.0” text (which probably had no impact on how it was being imported) to “6.0” out of desperation, and that didn’t work either.

February 20, 2016 at 11:12 pmOk, looks like even though I was using Final Cut Pro 6, I could only import xml versions 1 and 2. So I went into TextEdit, changed “4” to “2” and it worked.

November 20, 2018 at 7:47 pmHi,
I converted a FCP7 XML V5 file (from Da Vinci Resolve) into a V4 in order to read it in my FCP 6 and go on with the editing of my movie…. but all the color corrections I have done are gone.. Any ideas of how to make it work ?
Thanks in advance.
