  • Trouble importing and viewing converted XDCAM Mpeg2 files

Posted by Lee Hanatschek on July 15, 2010 at 6:33 am

I’ve been trying to set up a version of FCP on a new computer and I had a couple of colleagues of mine log and transfer some files from a Sony XDCAM EX-1 and then save them to a drive for me.

However, now I can’t seem to play these files in FCP. When I import them the files will play with audio but no vision in FCP and won’t play at all in QT (even though they are an mov file type).

The info on the for the codecs on the files are
    MPEG-2 Video, Linear PCM, Timecode
Calibrated XDCAM-EX 720p25, Integer (Little Endian), Timecode

Any suggestions where or how I can download the codecs to view these files would be greatly appreciated.

    FCP 6.0.2 and up.
Log and Transfer? Were the converted to .mov? That’s what Log and Transfer does.
Calibrated is form MPEG-2 .mp4 EX use. Not for .mov which would play inherently in the above system.
If you have Calibrated for .mov playback it’ll make a mess since it’s not for use with FCP 6.0.2. It’ll conflict with the built in EX .mov codec.
