  • Trouble Exporting a 3 minute video

I have two videos, both are 3 minutes long. One exported with no problem using Quicktime Conversion. The other one get’s to 25% and gives me an error message, tells me my hardrive has no memory, and then stops. I am saving and rendering everything to my external hardrive which has 500Gigs, so I have no idea why anything would be eating away at the system drive. I looked at the drive and it says it has zero kb. Once I re-start the computer, it goes back to normal…? So first I thought maybe my video was to text-keyframe heavy and I simplified it a whole bunch. That didn’t work. I can’t think of any reason why I can’t get this to Export. I tried exporting it without re-compressing all the frames, but then I was only able to play it back in FCP, not in Quicktime. Can someone help me?

1st how much normal free space do you have on your system drive, you always want 20% free. There are a lot of processes that wright temporary files to the system drive.

But what is the sequence settings, what are you compressing it to. While you need to make a movie self-contained, selecting re-compress each frame does is not necessary, that has nothing to do with being QT compatible.

Double check your saving path to make sure you are going to the external HD.

Okay thanks. I have all my settings for rendering, capturing, and saving going to My Book 500gig hardrive. I’ve exported a video there, and when I tried to do the same with the next one it didn’t work. But what I did notice is that the first video’s timeline settings are somehow making my program viewer box 4:3. The video that is not exporting completely has a timeline set to 16:9. Weird. But I shot both videos HD 16:9. Do you think that if I copy my sequence/edits, then paste it into the timeline with the settings that worked before, that I may be able to export?

those settings have nothing to do with the HD filling up. But sounds like they should be fixed. But it also sounds like you don’t have a handle on what you are doing. There is no “setting” for where exports go, you tell it which to go when you export the video in the dialog box.

What file structure is your MyBook? FAT-32 or HFS+? What is the size of the video that did export?
