What’s likely to happen if I connect a FAT32 formatted external HDD to a mac by firewire and simultaneously to a PClaptop via USB?

    Probably nothing.

External hard drives can only be connected to one computer. I assume the 2nd connection will be ignored.

What you want to do in this case is use the 2nd computer to connect to the 1st computer over some kind of network (wireless or ethernet) and access the external drive by going through the 1st computer.

Realistically, you’ll cause a confusion along the USB bus. Probably the first machine will ‘own’ the drive.

Why not set up sharing on the MAC or PC?
