Tripod System for EX1
Posted by Ariel Cannon on July 31, 2009 at 6:19 pmWe’re buying an EX-1 for our next project and are looking for a good tripod system to go with it. Any suggestions on the best tripod/head to use with the EX-1? We’d like to spend around $1200.

July 31, 2009 at 6:37 pmSachtler FSB6 head with their Carbon Fiber Quick Lock legs. It was somewhere around $1600 though. You don’t want to cut too many corners with a tripod. There’s nothing like a bad pan and tilt an fighting balance to make something look amateur.

July 31, 2009 at 6:50 pmThe Miller Solo tripods and heads are great and fit that price, but the Carbon fiber legs are really good.
I have 2 of these and love them

July 31, 2009 at 7:43 pmMy buddy is selling his Sachtler DV6 SB, it balances the EX3 great, so I’m sure the EX1 would be fine.
It is in excellent shape. -

Amen to that. We absolutely LOVE this tripod with our EX1. I’m about to order a second one for our EX3.

August 4, 2009 at 10:28 pmThe FSB6 is a great tripod, use it with the EX3. Kinda a side question the legs don’t go nearly high enough, do I need to buy new legs? How do people get their tripods higher than the low 5 feet?

August 6, 2009 at 1:25 amI’ll second the Manfrotto head/legs kit that B&H offers. We got the 526 head and 545BK sticks with bag kit here:
We use it with a pair of EX3 cameras on a slide bar for Stereoscopic video:

It’s served us pretty well thus far.

August 9, 2009 at 11:19 amB&H Video,of NY, has a Cartoni HiDV Fluid Head ($ 749).
Let me just say this, get the Cartoni. Hands down, the sweetest fluid head I have ever used. You will not regret it. 75mm bowl, I got a nice tripod for under $ 250. The Cartoni handles my EX3 with extra stuff on it just fine, it’s velvet smooth and has some nice lock down features and you can tilt it +90 degrees.
A tripod/fluid head is not the place to cut corners. At one time or another I have used them all, Sachs, O’Connors, Vinten, etc. This Cartoni is the best I have used.Mims
