July 1, 2009 at 9:04 pmI’ve been very happy with my Libec LS-55. I think it was originally around $1100.

July 1, 2009 at 9:47 pmDoes it go up to 7 feet? I think not.
Any tripod extending to that height is going to be:
Stable = expensive
Inexpensive = unstable

July 1, 2009 at 10:36 pmYeah I think 7 feet is a tall order for just about any tripod that’s not costing a fortune. Would you consider a 5-6 foot range and a nice apple box instead? Your budget will stretch a lot further.

July 1, 2009 at 11:31 pmWhere are you filming that you need to go up 7 feet? If you are in a fixed location, why not buy or build a small platform & just use your standard tripod. All you need is probably 3-4 feet, the tripod will handle the rest.
I’ve even used one 2 of those folding ladder systems with a sheet of 3/4″ plywwod as a deck.

July 2, 2009 at 8:37 amAlso depends what sort of head you want on it. Manfrotto do one https://www.manfrotto.com/Jahia/site/manfrotto/pid/2285?livid=68&lsf=68&child=1 that goes to 2.67m, but doesn’t have a bowl fitting.
Gitzo do this one https://www.gitzo.com/Jahia/site/gitzo/pid/4765?kindOfProductCollectionRequest=productDetail&productCode=GT5561SGT&productDescription=SER.5%206X%20SYSTEMATIC%206S.%20GIANT&curBrandId=BGI&market=MKT1&actualPathCategoryKey=1CAT:AAA1:2CAT:BB59:3CAT:C107:4CAT:D932&curMarketId=MARKET:MKT1 that goes to 2.6m that’ll take a 100mm bowl adaptor.

July 2, 2009 at 2:03 pmYou may want to consider a small Jib, they are fairly inexpensive and work with most sticks.
Not only do they give you added hight, but some really nice movements as well.
Just a thought.

July 2, 2009 at 5:07 pmAmen to a jib. Tripod shots are great to mix in but if that’s your only type of shot in a project, BORING.
