I have been trying to follow Lynda.com tutorial if you ever heard of here training and on her module for trimming she uses the column/In/Out point to presicely move the in and out point a layer on the timeline now when I enter a in point time the layer trim precisely but when I enter the out point time the inpoint of the layer moves far before the start time of the comp itself. How did she accomplish that task ? Is it because she is working on 6.0 and I working on 6.5 ?

The best way to trim is to place the Time Indicator at a particular point in time and use the shortcut keys, ALT+[ and ALT+] for trimming in and out points respectively.

Using the panels can be confusing indeed.
