    the Motion Help states ;
    Trim an image or video layer without trimming its applied effects objects
    You can trim a layer without affecting the duration of its applied effects objects (masks, filters, and so on).
    Press and hold the Command key while you drag the edge of the image or video clip.
    The object is trimmed independently of its applied effects objects.”

    I’ve noticed for awhile now this seemed inconsistent (sometimes didn’t seem to work and applied objects were trimmed as well) and encountered it again this morning and seem to have narrowed it down that this feature simply doesn’t ever work for text layers – it seems to work OK for groups, shapes, images, generators, clone layers, emitters, etc. – but NOT text layers…text layers always behave as if the command key were not down when trimming (even when the command key IS down)

    a very quick google search didn’t come up with anything but does anyone know if this is a known bug ?

    I reported it as a bug in Apple’s bug db
