Trim to blue line?
Posted by Lee Denham on January 30, 2014 at 6:53 amHi, I’m new to Avid from FCP 7. How can I ‘trim to the blue line’ like I can with FCP?
Thanks!
Lee

January 30, 2014 at 8:09 amIt’s called Extend, and there’s a button for it that looks sort of like this

However, I think you will need to have a Mark In or Mark Put placed, so that MC knows in which direction you want to trim the cut.

January 30, 2014 at 12:45 pmTo trim an edit to the left: Mark an IN point at the frame you want to trim to, then press “extend”. Ensure the correct tracks are activated.
To trim an edit to the right: Mark an OUT point and do the same.LEFT = IN POINT
RIGHT = OUT POINThope that makes sense

This is a feature that I use ALL the time for quick trims to the heads and tails of shots. It’s sort of the reverse of what extend does, ie: if trims from the blue bar to the end head or the tail of the clip.
I believe it’s detailed on page 722 of the currently supplied PDF documentation.

February 4, 2014 at 6:04 amThank You Sir! This IS, overall, more of what I was looking for and to do. I enjoy Avid but I just need to learn the ‘Avid way’ some more.
I’m not English but I’ll still say Brilliant thanks to your tip.
Thanks Again Sir!!!
Lee.
