I’d bet this has been covered somewhere, but I couldn’t find it, so here’s the question:

Is there a ‘simple’ way to create a screen (probably in the browser) that will display a representative frame from each of, say, 20 or so selects that have been placed in a “selects” timeline, so that they can then be dragged into the project timeline in whatever order I might choose?

I know about ‘Large Icons’ in the browser, but what I cant figure out is how to do that using only the short, selected pieces of media that have been pulled out of longer clips prior to editing the sequence. (And also how to select which frame will become the ‘large icon’.)

Forgive me if this is simple and obvious. I did figure out a sort of workaround by creating a new project, then selecting all clips in my selects timeline, then dragging that into the new project’s bin in the browser, then opening that as “large icons’, but it seems quite clumsy.

    Many thanks for any suggestions,

    Peter

Look up “poster frame” in your FCP manual.

I like to scrub the thumbnail in list view. Just click and hold on the thumb, and drag left or right. Hold down control and the frame you see will be the new thumb when you release.

Or, for real long clips, press ctrl p in the viewer when you’re on the frame you like.
