    Hi!

I have a moving matte movie that I’m using in AE. Just a black and white rendering. I’ve got the matte working and everything using the Inverted Luma Matte. What I need to do is expand the matte edges and blur them so it doesn’t look jagged. The blur works fine, but blurs inward, thus revealing a haze of the image i am replacing. So the question is, is there a way to blur outwards? or expand the matte outward? So that when I blur it, I don’t expose the replaced image? Thanks for the help?

This is just a guess– use a second mask to keep the inside edge sharp.

Hi maybe you could try making a comp with your footage and then drag the black and white layer underneath it and turn it off. Apply Channel>Set Matte to you footage and set the ‘Take Matte From Layer’ parameter of Set Matte to your black and white image. Set the ‘Use For Matte’ parameter to Luminance. You should now have something looking similar to your inverted luma matte operation. Now you can apply a Matte Tools>Matte Choker effect to the footage under the Set Matte effect and see if you can get the effect you want. You can also take it a step further and precompose the Black and white image and do some bluring and choking operations on it within it’s own comp and the set that comp to the ‘Take Matte From Layer’ parameter of the Set Matte effect. A few companies make some pretty good matte choking effects that are snazzier that AE’s Matte Choker Effect if you look around on the net.
    Good Luck

In this case Simple Choker with a negative value would probably be more effective than Matte Choker.
