Trialing Vegas 10 HD
I am trialing Vegas 10 HD and have a quesion on rendering. I am rendering video, about 35 minutes in length, after adding some disolves and titles. The rendering box shows approx. 2H 20M to complete the rendering task. The video is in AVCHD format at 1440X1080i and I am using the 1440X1080i template on output. Is 2 hours a resonable amount of time to render 35 minutes of video in AVCHD output format? My prior video editing tool was premiere elements 3.o which doesn’t support AVCHD formated files and I was not impressed with the latest release of premiere elements from all ofthe bug reports folks using it are reporting. I’m running the software on a Intel Core 2 Quad Q9450 @ 2.66 GHz with 3G Mem running Vista 32 bit OS.

I think this timing is realistic.
With an i7-950, under 7/64 and Vegas Pro 10, I have about 1’30 of rendering per minute of movie (with no effects), rendering 1920×1080 clips to 1280×720 output with the Sony AVC plug-in (target is MP4).
rendering to 1920×1080 instead of 1280×720 is about twice as long.
So, considering your hardware, I believe your timing is more or less normal.

I have an i5 w/8 GBs RAM, quad cores, and W7 64x w/Vegas 10 (Trial) and 9e. I think your rendering time is accurate, but would wonder what your times would be if you convert to AVI using Neoscene and then render out. It’s supposed to be a lot more efficient to use AVI for rendering and editing than AVCHD. I still edit in AVCHD for some small jobs, but neoscene so easy to convert that I’m doing it more and more. It *seems* to be reducing my render times, but no tests yet. Converting is batch process that’s very easy and fast. (I just converted 5 clips to AVI that were shot on MOV/AVC format (Canon 7d) and the entire conversion took 33 minutes. I’ve not yet rendered out the content. Maybe I’ll to it tonight.
Update: I just completed the 28 minute clip, rendering the AVI HD video from the Canon 7d (transcoded from MOV to AVI) into Sony AVC for SD output to Vimeo. Looks like I’m getting 28 minutes in 30 minutes for this kind of output on this machine. I’m happy.
