Trapcode Particular does some very nice flythroughs, you can even make ’em streak if you decide to jump into hyperspace 🙂

Go to http://www.thefoundry.co.uk and look at the Tinderbox plugin suite. One of the three of them has exactly what you’re looking for.

Try the effect called “CC Star Burst.”

If you have a non eucational version of AE (not sure if it’s Pro Only) There is an extra installer on the AE CD for the Cycore Effects – it’s one of those.
