Hi all here is my basic question, I edit at home using the macbook pro and store all files related to my FCP project to a external Lacie hd. No problems at all, everything works fine. I have to do so traveling, will take the hd with me fo ruse at the hotel. How can I edit on a plane with out using the hd , copy all files to my system drive and then later copy them back to the external drive ? I know FCP will ask for the portable hd if that is where the files are stored

    thanks

If you are using proper file management, then you should be able to drag over the couple of media folders, as well as the project file, then relink it in FCP and you should be good to go.
It must be a really long flight if you are going to try to do some heavy editing while your flying…

If you have the money, it would be easier to invest in a micro FW drive that gets power from your laptop. THen you might be able to plug in your drive and keep working. Although with the airline scare, all bets are off.

    Good Luck,

slightly more advanced.. is using Offlien RT

Boot laptop into Target Disk Mode.. Hodl Down T at startup

    Plug it into tower

Rn media manager… target disk and create a version of the project at Offlien RT mode
Do not delete unused media or change handle length

    Edit

When Done… Create Offline project with Media Manager and relink to Main media

This workflow is adewuately described in documentation
