    Hello!

I’m very new with playing around in AE, and just barely starting to dive into Trapcode Particular. I was looking to create an effect of smoke/energy moving across screen (like a comet) and i’ve followed a couple tutorials to understand the basics of trapcode. However, both tutorials are using lights as emitters and I would like the flow of energy to come from a circular shape as it flows across the screen instead of a point. I’ve tried to create a masked shape layer, which I then precomped and changed to a 3D layer, and adjusted the emitter type to layer… but the particle effect disappeared and didn’t pick up on the shape.

Any advice, or even links to relevant tutorials would be amazing!

Hi Caitlin, when you’re using a layer emitter you need to increase your birth rate into the thousands – if I understand it correctly the whole layer is emitting which includes the alpha creating invisible particles.
