Trapcode Particular // Emitter Type: Layer // Problem
hey guys,
I am having problems with particular. I am trying to use a layer for emitter. i tried to follow tutorials and also got info directly from trapcode(https://www.trapcode-content.com/help/particular/layer_emitter.html).
Nothing works! When i set the emitter type to layer, the particles just disappear(no matter what point in timeline). The plugin blocks me from choosing a layer for emitting the particles (See picture)
Iam using the new After Effects CC. Andy Ideas? I Need help quickly!

You’ve selected “Layer” as your Emitter Type BUT did you select the layer itself – you select a specific layer in the Layer Emitter property.

NEW PROBLEM:
I use particular to create a 3D glow emitting from a circle shaped layer.
I figured out how to use the layer as emitter. So far..
I increased the particle size and the glow(using glow sphere particles) and use the circle as obscuration layer.
two problems appear: 1. though use the obscuration layer the particle glow “penetrates” the layer
2. In profile the particles sigficantly shine through the layer. is their a way to
avoid that? In CC Particle World i can set the visibility to “Show only above floor”
can i do that here as well? -

Use a variation of the obscuration/emitter layer that accurately obscures the particles within the required layer. Then use this layer as a matte (Track Matte) for the Particular layer.
I’m not sure what the issue is with (2) that you described. Perhaps a few screen captures will be helpful.
