  • Trapcode Particular – different particles per emitter?

Posted by David Gudelius on February 6, 2008 at 4:30 pm

    Hi there,

I’ve got a question: is it possible to tell Particular that it should take more than one layer as a particle?
I need up to 60 different particles (textlayers in my case) being emitted… and I don’t want to place 60 emitters in the scene, setting up all of them differently.

Is there a solution for my issue with Particular, or would you recommend another 3D particle system?

    Thanks in advance!

I’m not sure if this is exactly what you want, but it might get you close..

You can set up a precomp with each text “particle” taking up one frame. For example, frame 1 would be “T”. Frame 2 would be “E”… etc..

add particular to a solid and then:

Particle > particle type > custom

    layer > your text precomp

time sampling > random, still frame

So every particle that comes out will be a random frame from your precomp.

I hope I’ve explained this well and it works for you..

    Anybody else?

    That would be my solution.

    Thank you very much,
I’m gonna test this directly tomorrow and report if it worked.
Thanks again! You might have saved me from working too much hours tomorrow. 🙂

All worked fine – thanks for that, guys!
I wish that someday Particular would be able to orientate the particles according to the 3D camera, too… REAL 3D particles.
