  • Trapcode – light rays around a 3D object?

Posted by Mark Frost on January 10, 2009 at 9:58 pm

    Hi,

I’ve been searching the net for an hour but I can’t find the answer.

I set trapcode shine in AE on an adjustment layer in front of my 3D logo.
But trapcode shines through the logo, I want the logo to remain there and have the rays of light go around the outside of the logo and through the cracks in the letters of the logo.

    How is this possible?

    Thanks!

Apply Shine to the text layer, not to an adjustment layer.

Only use adjustment layers if you want an effect to be applied to all layers in a comp — not when you want to apply it to one layer.

It is not a text layer, it is a 3d object that moves.
It it is applied to that object, the shine comes from the object – not around it.

how do I make the shine go around the 3d object?

Kinda difficult to understand what you’re after. But to take a stab at it, I’ll suggest that you look at the Batlight tutorial at the Trapcode site.

No that’s not it, because light is going through the batsign, I want it to go around the logo.

For example, the sun shines through the leaves on a tree and the mist makes rays of light around the leaf, not through the leaf

Gotit! I think. 😉 Within the Colorize tab, there is an option called Based On. Change the default to Alpha Edges.
