How do I make the fill of the text negative so that the background shows through the rectangle instead of the black? Basically I want it to look like i used a “text eraser” on the rectangle. The graphic was created in photoshop and imported as layers into AE.

    Thanks!

One way would be to make a duplicate of your video, place it below the black text and change it’s track matte “alpha matte”

Or just switch to the screen blending mode.
