    Ok, I know this is simple, but can’t seem to find the answer.

    I have a gradient quarter third that starts 100% red on the left and grades to white on the right.
    I want the white to become transparent, not white.

    How do I do that?

    How have you applied a gradient? Is your gradient the fill of a shape layer? Is it a layer style?

    I did it through Effect -> Generate -> Ramp

    If you want to have greater control over opacity and color stops, use the fill of a shape layer for your gradient.
