ok, so i am trying to simulate planes flying over a city with night vision effect. I have created the planes in photoshop with a transparent background. The first picture shows the plane layered above the city image, and it looks great. when i apply the night vision effect to the city map layer and the plane layer the transparency becomes ineffective. am i going about this all wrong. i tried just reducing the opacity of a solid layer with i placed above all the layers (thinking that maybe i could use it as a “lens”) but in the end it looked pretty bad. can anyone throw me a bone please?

Try creating a new adjustment layer above the 2 layers and applying your night visiobn effect to it. Or pre-compose etc.
