    Hello All,

First time posting here. I have a question regarding FCP and P2.

Is it possible to transcode P2 footage in Log and Transfer in FCP?

What I am hoping to achieve is an HD Offline workflow @ DV Anamorphic that includes P2 as a B cam to either the HDX-900 or F-900.

This is something that I was under the impression could happen in FCP but after taking a quick look have understood it to not be possible.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

    Thanks.

Nope. FCP only transfer the footage and puts it into a QT wrapper and marries audio and video.

THe only thing you can do really is import the footage, use the Media Manager to RECOMPRESS it to DV, then use that as offline, and when you are done, RECONNECT to the full res versions.

What you can do is take the raw files in your capture scratch and run them through compressor to dv at a matching frame rate. All of the timecode and metadata is retained. You can then move your p2 footage to another disk for storage, edit, then media mamange that sequence and set it for DVCPro HD. You can then reconnect your original p2 media.

    BUT

This is a hassle. DVCPro HD is the easiest and lowest bandwidth i frame codec to edit with. You shouldn’t have any trouble editing it off of a fw800 array or less. You might even be able to get away with a single fw400 drive, but it’ll be slow.
