We are thinking of employing and enforcing loudness control from either Junger or Linear Acoustics before the channel PGM signal enters the transmission headend. I would agree that enforcing strict audio level management during ingest or production is still the best way to go to preserve audio quality, but it’s tedious.

Does anyone have any experience with the Junger Level Magic or Linear Acoustics AeroMax? How are their impact on audio quality for different type of programs (ie from a talkshow to a music program)?

Well, what is so tedious about doing it in an IT environment?
I take it you are not broadcasting from tape…

There are numerous applications out there that can do this for you, at little to no cost (except of course your IT dep. setting it up…)

Over here we now have new regulations that no longer look at absolute peak levels, but at perceived loudness.

A simple, nice (batch) converter tool that can do this for you is here:

    (And it’s free…)

Actually, I do know about controlling from the IT side

But I’m looking into a solution for controlling the pgm loudness on the embedded before the headend transmission and after the master controls.

well, can’t help you with that.
But my vulcan side says this will be close to impossible without introducing a delay (as you have to look ahead a bit at least), so that will be fun…
