Since upgrading to Final Cut Studio I’m having problems with alpha channel graphics working with transitions other than cross dissolve. I apply an edge wipe to a graphic and instead of wiping just the edge of the graphic like it did in FCP HD, the entire screen is black until it completes the transition. Once the transition is complete the alpha channel works fine. If I try another transition, I get the same effect. However, on my parts of the timeline the transitions work as advertised. I have created some new graphics in FCP 5 to see if the age of the graphic was part of the equation but that doesn’t seem to be it. The cross dissolve is the only transition that works 100% of the time.

I have dumped preferences and repaired permissions. Any ideas or is anyone else getting this same unacceptable result?

Was this project started in 4.5 and then opened in 5.0? If so, that may cause what you’re observing. We’ve noticed that there is some “wonkiness” with existing 4.5 projects that are brought forward to 5.0. It’s never a good idea to “cross over” versions. If possible start a fresh project in 5.0. If you already have a “clean”, new project, then I’m stumped.

This project was started in 4.5 and is now acting strangely in 5.0. I’m not sure why some of the transitions work but most don’t

    Doug,
Make sure you’re in Safe RT and High Quality in the RT Pop Up Menu and rendered at Full Quality in the Sequence>Render menus.
