I’m considering moving from Sony Vegas to FCP. Can anyone direct me to a free on-line demo/tutorial that shows how to insert and adjust transitions in FCP. In Vegas, it’s a one hand operation. I wonder how FCP compares.
    Thanks!

A tutorial on how to do a transition? Hmmm…I know that the ones that come with FCP will show that. But you need to buy it first.

There’s about 4 ways to do a transition I know of. it’s quite easy and while it may not work the same as Vegas, how an application performs a transition is not a “make or break” for making the switch. Like any other NLE the “buttons” are in a different place and you’ll need to adjust your workflow whether you switch to FCP, Avid, Premiere, or anything in between.

To make a switch you either have to be really unhappy with your current workflow, the product you’re using is going away, or the product you’re looking at has somer really great features that make your life easier.

Making a change from one NLE to another is a big deal, so be sure it’s something you really want to do before you jump in.

Adjust how, for timing? Simply grab the end of the transition and drag out or in.

You can right click on any tranision and change its duration and its placement (end of clip, center, start of clip), and in addition every transition in FCP can be customized in certain ways by double clicking on it and loading into the viewer to customize user definable controls. For example, when loading a simple cross dissolve into the viewer, there are two sliders enabling the user to change the incoming and outgoing frames of the dissolve.

Google video and Youtube have become valuable assets for beginners. Here are a few:
