Hi to All and Happy Merry Everything!

I nested 4 clips (V1 to V4) and moved the nested result to the Browser so I could use it again and again. Plenty of media was available on each side of the 4 individual clips in the sense that they were photoshop files and an FCP text clip. Yet, when I tried to use transitions with the new nested clip, things fell apart. I couldn’t use a cross dissolve. I couldn’t fadein/out. I couldn’t do anything that involved an adjacent clip. I had to create my own transitions by lengthening the nested clip and playing with opacity, 72 times in this project!!! I was under such pressure I didn’t have any choice…. but what a waste of time!

I thought that nested items were supposed to behave like clips.
    Where did I go wrong?

    Thanks very much.

They do behave like clips, only clips that’s using all of the available media. FCP treats a sequence as a complete piece of media. It will not go inside it to extend the material to create the necessary handles. There are a couple of ways around this. Either go inside the sequence and extent the material, but set In and Out points inside the sequence (but you have to do that before you edit it into the final). That will give you handles in the final sequence. Or simply trim back the sequence in the final to create the handles for the transition.

    All the best,

    Tom
