March 17, 2006 at 10:53 pmI’m with you and would like to second that.
I am new to AE and havn’t found much about creating transitions between graphics. The layout is much different thanFCP, it seams you can’t just put a cut through a moving clip and throw on a transition. . . thankspb

March 17, 2006 at 11:09 pmIf you go under effects>transition> there are a few that can produce some cool transition effects and even better if you combine a couple. But, of course After Effects is way different than FCP. It gives you the power to make your own unique transition, as well your standard everyday ones that FCP can do.
Check out the transition effects though, there are some pretty cool ones.

March 18, 2006 at 11:21 pmI was not refering to traditional transitions but stuff like where you would bring in a coporate log that would scale in and wipe past the screen to transition into the next piece. I was wondering if there was any advanced teniques and so fourth. I really just trying to get other ideas.
Thanks

March 18, 2006 at 11:37 pmIf you are using the transition within AE, then just scale the logo to fill the screen halfway, for example, allowing you to cut to the next shot underneath it. When you scale back down or move back out, voila, shot B is revealed.
If you want to use the transition within say, FCP, you could create a keyed transition: use 100% white where your shot A goes, and 100% black for shot B. When you lay it over the top of two overlapping shots in your timeline, changing your composite mode to luma key will create an A>B transition. You may need to reverse the black/white depending on your NLE.
Yet another option is to render a .mov with an embedded alpha channel – your NLE will read the transparency in the logo, you’ll just need to wipe or dissolve beneath it in the timeline.
I hope this is what you were after.

March 20, 2006 at 2:06 amCreate a regular wipe between two clips (which can be done in AE by animating masks) and then cover the wipe with the fullscreen logo which moves across screen covering the edge of the wipe.
