Activity Forums VEGAS Pro Transition question

Most of the time Vegas does what I want, but occasionally I end up fighting with the program. I have a workaround but I am hoping someone has a faster process.

    Task
I have two clips with a space in-between them. I want the two clips next to each other with a standard fade say .8 seconds to occur on both clips. Normally I just drag one of the clips over and grab the dark blue triangle in the corner and set it to .8 and then repeat grab the other clips dark blue triangle and set it to .8 seconds.

    Snag
Occasionally, I run into the following snag. I get a light blue triangle, instead of a dark blue triangle and I am unable to grab the fading transition. I have to separate the clips and try again. Most of the time this occurs after I have created one fade. Or, more frequently, I have two clips, both with fades and as I put the clips together they refuse to lock. Instead as I get close they want to form a cross fade (which is not what I want).

Is there a setting that I can adjust to make this run easier.

    Thanks so much,
    Jonathan

[jonathan hay] “Or, more frequently, I have two clips, both with fades and as I put the clips together they refuse to lock. Instead as I get close they want to form a cross fade (which is not what I want).”

In this case, it sounds like the left clip is just slightly longer than the frame boundry. Resize the left one so that it ends on a frame boundry.

I agree. I was looking for a way to get vegas to ignore the fact that the audio and video tracks do not line up perfectly. Most of the time I’m placing the audio/vido clip next to a still so it does not matter that the audio goes into the the area under the still. More generally, is there a good way of triming the sound so it is the same length as the video clip. I can very easily get to the edge of the video clip with keystrock 9 or 7, but I don’t know how to move directly down to the next track. When I try this with the mouse I enevitably click a little to the right or left so they still don’t line up perfectly.

If you have Quantize to Frames turned on, they should both snap to the frame boundry when you resize either. Just make it one frame smaller.
