Transition problems w/FCP 5.0.2 and 59.94 720p
Hey everyone,
Anyone else having this issue?
We’ve recently gotten a lot of work with 720p material coming off of D5. While FCP 5 has been running
normally with the 1080i and 24p material we have been working with, the 59.94 720p stuff seems to
be creating issues with simple transitions such as dissolves and fades to black. Our edit has numerous fade to blacks or really dip to blacks, as the client wants to immediately fade up
into the next shot. Placing a dip to color on the timeline results in an immediate CUT to black at the
head and tail of the transition. We have tried to work-around by fading to black, adding a frame of black
between the two shots, and then another fade up from black. Same results: a CUT to black. They do not
render correctly, nor do they scrub correctly. Nor will they park on a frame in the middle of the transition
showing only black while in the area of the transition. What gives?Another problem we are having is dissolving from a frame of white… perhaps this is a problem with my
workflow. I am using the built-in effects video generator to make a white rectangle, cutting it into the
timeline, then trying to dissolve from the rectangle to the next shot. Invariably, the cross-dissolve
goes from the white frame to black, then cuts to the first frame of picture after the transition. Seems
like this is related to the aformentioned problem… What do you think?I have reinstalled my Blackmagic drivers, trashed preferences, cleared the PRAM and pulled out a lot of
hairs in the process of debugging this. Incidentally, my workaround has been to export the XML and open
the job in FCP 4.5 where the transitions perform flawlessly. Not exactly an elegant solution, but what
can you do when your client is breathing down your neck?Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Matt
