    Hello Everyone!

I am having issues with a transition in FCP. At the end of the transition (cross dissolve with black), the brightness/contrast seems to jump. The glitch does not appear when I scrub frame by frame BEFORE rendering, but only AFTER I render. I attempted to place a slug video track above my shot and cross fade that (to imitate the crossfade, but the glitch still appeared.)

I have set all of my playback/render settings to full and not dynamic. The glitch appears when I render the sequence out to any format.

I am using the AJA Kona 10-bit RGB codec for compression (the sequence is set to this codec as is the video files, this project was captured from 35mm film).

I have searched the forum for an answer, but have not found a solution that fixes the problem.

I have uploaded a short clip, with the glitch to: https://www.kylesteinike.com/fcpglitch.mov
(file is encoded with H.264, 1.2mb in size)

I would appreciate any advice that anyone may have! Thanks!

[Kyle Steinike] “I am using the AJA Kona 10-bit RGB codec”

You should be using the AJA Kona 10-bit uncompressed NTSC codec, not the RGB codec.

Try instead of using the dissolve transition to keyframe the opacity from 100 to 0. Also I believe changing the settings in “Sequence setting” – “Video Processin” to 10 bit high precision YUV or render all YUV material to high precision YUV might do the trick.
Also try deleting the preference and resetting final cut pro.
    Hope this help

The AJA Kona 10-bit RGB is the format that the transfer facility used to ingest the project with. Since we wanted to keep the project at the highest quality, we simply used this codec as well. I cannot find the “AJA Kona 10-bit uncompressed NTSC” in my list of AJA codecs; do you know where I could find it?

I am starting to think that the glitch is caused by the codec, due to the fact that when I changed the clip to ProRes 4444, the glitch did not exist.

Just to follow up; I think I found the solution to the problem.

I did some exploring in the sequence settings, specifically the video processing tab. My sequence was set to “render 10-bit material in high-precision YUV”. I changed the setting to “always render in RGB”, and now the glitch does not appear.

Would this cause any problems when sending the project back out to HDCam tape?

Are you going to HDCam or SR?

We will be going to both.

Cool, just making sure as the dual link 10bit RGB is way overkill for HDCam.

Unfortuantely, though the RGB rendering in FCP is truncated to 8 bit.
