Anyone have any wisdom they would like to share on a transition from 844/X to MCA?
We do a mix of long and short form work, motion graphics, 3D (lightwave), After Effects…
Any little tidbits that might help the workflow would be greatly appreciated.

    Wanna trade?
I have an MCA and would love to swap it out for an 844/X
or for anything for that matter.

Do you have Avid experience? If not, you can download the free version of Xpress at Avid.com. It’s not a powerful app by any means but it is the same interface and could provide some hands on training for you while waiting for the adrenaline.

why are you guys ditchin’ the 844?

We’re keeping it for our older work and for another editing seat. It’s starting to become less stable due to the XBlur card becoming defective again (we’re on #2 now). Every year and half we’re down for 2 weeks waiting for a card to come back from media100/optibase/borisfx (whoever ownes it this year).

We also want some media management, the 844/X really never matured to a decent level in that area. Plus the audio side is a joke.

I have some Avid experience we had an MC express for a couple years.

MC express is a bit different. Is till recomend dlownloading the free version and tinkering a bit.
If you were freelance, I’d urge you into another hose for time on their Avid. That’s hard to do as a staffer elsewhere though. Check around for regional seminars that may be happening to try to sell the product. While they are usually bug-free cookie cutter demos all ironed out before hand, you’ll get a slight familuarity where things are.
