    Hi everybody,
    I do have a question, it don’t know how to answer. Looked all over the web, but did not find a satisfying answer.
    The problem is to transform 1080i50 material into 1080p25, the so called deinterlacing process.

    Here is what I did and what gave me the (not so good) best result so fare:

    – Color Correction in Davinci Resolv (interlaced)
    – Export QT ProRes 422 1080i50, XML-Workflow
    – Final Cut sequenze, ProRes 422 1080i50
    – Videofilter – Deinterlanced (max. value) applied to all clips.
    – Exportieren sequenze as QT ProRes 422 1080p25
    – QT import and making new sequenze with settings to ProRes 422 1080p25
    – Import overlay graphics from After Effects and did the spotting.
    – Finaly export DPX for the dcp. and a QT for BD and DVD.

    The problem are the pictures with lots of movement.

    Technically, I read about the different methods for Interlacing:

    • Field Combination
    • Field Extension
    • Motion Detection (adaptive oder compensated)

    I heard that the last one is by far the best, but when I tried things out, it did not work.

    Unfortunately, none of the results is doing a good job in my eyes.
    Therefore I do need help.

    I heard, that hardware transformation is the best way to do it. Before buying a expensive kit, I would like to have your opinion.

    Do you know any other hardware devices?
    What do you use or is there after all the perfect software solution?

    i recently purchased a Teranex 2D because I simply got fed up with so-so software conversions that took days sometimes,but certainly even for clips that have been pooched by – lets just leave it at – “other processes”.

    its as good as it can get, and best of all, no waiting. Sometimes even the on-card conversions that are available on AJA and Blackmagic I/O devices are going to be visibly superior to the most time-consuming “best” settings in the majority of software applications.

    The biggest disappointment with Teranex processor is that it can deinterlace only when capturing 🙁 Meaning if you have your footage already captured, you need to add lossy processing to do the deintelacing. Say you have an interlaced DV footage you want to deinterlace. You can’t feed the Teranex with your data over Thunderbolt, let it decompress, do the processing and output uncompressed data back. You have to decode the DV (or whatever you have) on your own, encode it (losses!) into what the Teranex is capable of capturing from, feed its inputs with the resulting signal and only this way you can make it do the deinterlacing job:

    DV->decode->encode->teranex input->decode->process->encode->teranex output->END

    instead of :

    DV->teranex input->decode->process->encode->output->END
