  • Transferring project from Premiere Pro to Avid Media Composer

I’m handing off an feature doc edit that I cut in Premiere Pro to a finishing editor who works in Avid. What is the best way to transfer the project over? (Sorry if this has been addressed already, most of the threads I found were a few years old, hoping there might be an update).

    Thanks!

You can’t transfer full projects, only sequences. So if they plan on taking over editing and want to do it in Avid, then someone will have to reimport and re-organize all of the media…and you can send the cut as it exists over.

But none of the media in the cut will relink to the newly organized project…because you’ll have to export an AAF, send that to Resolve, then render that media out as Avid media and export an AAF to Avid. And it’ll relink to THAT media, but that media will be different….because you converted it…and it’s not linked to the media they import.

It is not a good idea to try to change the editing software mid way. They either need to learn how to cut with Premiere, or get ready to spend a lot of time building the project up from scratch.

Shane is correct. Too bad though. Just like Windows and Apple.

Thanks so much Shane! Unfortunately that’s what I suspected, but I was wishing there might be some new workaround.

    Thanks again!
