    Hi,
    A newbie logistical question.

If I were to digitize media at work (for a FCP Studio project) where we have all the decks etc, and I wanted to transfer the media to a firewire drive and take it home to a FCP Studio station to use there. What is the best way to approach this?

Do I have to take a copy of the project home or can I just import the media into a newly created project and would it have the “logged media names” or just numeric names. Having an Avid background I really have no idea how FCP manages media and how it handles being transferred from one workstation/project to another.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance!!

You have to copy both media and the projekt on a firwire harddisc. You plug it in at home and start working.

    Fantastic. Thanks for the response!
What if you dont want the project to live on the firewire?
If you copy it to the internal drive…..what happens? I assume you just need to re-link the media?

And (last question I promise) If you want to transfer additional media at a later time to the project you have at home (with this process) can you just import it into the pre-existing home project?

    Thank you!

I would wipe it down and start a new copy. What you could do is to malk the media lets say best clips (they show red) when you transfer new media it shows grey, so you know which media clips you have used in the sequence (If you mark the sequence clips red, all the used media clips show red as well) But you always have to copy the project file. If some clips don’t turn up and show offline, you have to relink them. Complicated, it depends on the amount of Gigs you have to transfer. I would wipe everything down and start a new copy.
