Transferring Clips Off Of SSD

From fastest to slowest:

If your MacBook Pro has a Thunderbolt port, you can use a Thunderbolt SATA drive “dock” to connect a SSD and transfer data to your laptop. Seagate makes one.

If your MBP has a USB-3 port, you can use a USB-3 SATA drive dock, such as Voyager S3 or StarTech.

If your MBP has an ExpressCard34 slot, you can put a eSATA adapter card in it, and use a eSATA dock, like Voyager Q.

If your MBP has Firewire 800, use a FW800 dock. Voyager Q can connect via eSATA or FW800.

If your MBP has USB-2, use a USB-2 dock. Again, Voyager Q.

Of the above choices, Thunderbolt is many times faster than USB-2. The other solutions fall in-between in terms of speed.

Me too.

For situations when I want to operate completely on battery power (no AC power), I also use a bus-powered eSATA/FW800 external disk enclosure (with its lid removed) as a “dock”:

I’ve been looking for thunderbolt adaptors for the same reason. Is the Seagate dock hack the best we can do? I’m usually pretty happy to bodge things together with duct tape, but when transferring rushes I want to be pretty sure I’m not going to accidentally knock it with my elbow and lose the day’s work.

Here’s a business opportunity for anyone who wants it:
1. Make a SATA SSD dock with thunderbolt out, and market it to BMCC users.
2. ?
3. Profit!
