  • Transferring clips between Premiere Pro & After Effects not working

Posted by Jonathan Buck on June 24, 2012 at 8:59 pm

    Hi there,

I’ve used After Effects for bits and pieces before though rarely in conjunction for video projects that I cut on Premiere Pro. Since I wanted to improve the quality of my titles in Premiere I decided to get more into juggling the workflow between.

However nearly all the information I have found online says I can simply copy and paste footage or titles back and forth. When I try this however it doesn’t seem to register the copied information from the separate software and so there isn’t an option to paste. The closest I’ve gotten to achieving some kind of transfer was by importing an after effects project (which had a simple title) into premiere where the composition appeared and was usable. I tried to do this again however and it just seems to freeze Premiere so this method is obviously hit and miss.

Can anyone give me any advice on where I might be going wrong? Anything at all would greatly appreciated. I use Prem Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4.

Are your CS4 softwares, part of a suite….(production premium or master collection)?

or just two Adobe stand alone softwares?

I don’t think stand alones will work.

They were part of a suite, dynamic link doesn’t seem to be much use either.

Pretty sure it was yes. is that the only thing that could be wrong?

    That would be my thinking….

whatever external components are needed to make the softwares see each other weren’t installed….

    I’d confirm that with Adobe…

Dynamic Link is a separate, although small, piece of software that gets installed (and is only available to) installations of the Creative Suites (either Production Premium or Master Collection, as I remember). That’s the path to take in your investigation – did you install this as part of your CS installation?

    As a work around…..

you should be able to literally open you PPro Project file up in AE….

then choose the PPro sequence as a comp….

If that helps in the mean time…
