April 20, 2008 at 3:59 pmYou can download the Avid Codecs from Avid…just google Avid Codecs Mac…and see if that will work, but most likely it won’t. They typically let you view the footage in QT, but not allow you to edit the footage in FCP. FCP deals with QUicktime files, and Avid captures as OMFI or MXF…
Best to recapture the footage in FCP.

April 20, 2008 at 4:40 pmWhy do people ALWAYS say this? Anytime people want to take files from one system to another and edit them, recapturing is NEVER an option. Why is that?
Get the Avid codecs…see if they work. If they work in QT but not in FCP, then use QT to export the files into something FCP can edit. Know that all the timecode and reel information will be gone from those clips…IF they convert.

July 21, 2008 at 3:35 amHi Torrey,
I hope you have figured out the problem by now but just in case you haven’t, or if any other person in need stumbles upon this thread…
I have recently gone through the same problem of trying to get logged and captured footage from Avid Media Composer across to Final Cut Pro. There’s little information that I could find scattered around the net and what could be found only described one little part.
Eventually myself and a colleague worked out the process of transferring the clips as well as keeping all the logged information and time-codes. After putting so much effort in, I thought I’d write a step by step guide on how we achieved it.
You can read it in the article section of my website.

I hope this helps to ease the pain.

I just hope it makes things easier for people.
And besides, what’s the point in having the knowledge if you don’t share it.
