Transferring Adobe Premiere Project to Final Cut Pro

Premiere literally has an “Export to Final Cut Pro” command now. If that version doesn’t, then Export XML and open it in FCP.

Now the huge advantage that Premiere has over FCP is that it can edit MPEG, H.264 and other file formats that FCP cannot. So your only option is to convert any and all files that FCP cannot edit with.

I had to do that recently with a major project that was sent to us in Premiere. It was all edited with the raw MXF data from the P2 cameras and with a ton of H.264 files. I had to convert everything to ProRes before I could pick up the edit.

Thanks for your help, Walter. In truth, I don’t even need to edit this project any further, however I do need a high-res export for archival purposes that will look good in QT. Any hints for a Premiere export setting that will look good when I convert to Apple ProRes?

If you’re Premiere Pro install is on your Mac, then export to ProRes directly from Premiere Pro. Create a custom preset using ProRes (save it) and export away.
