Screwed the pooch. Shot in 24p Normal XL2, captured at normal NTSC 29.97. Organized over 2000 clips (documentary) in multiple layered bins, created many sequences with edits. Everything works fine, except of course that not everything looks that great.

My question is, I now want to convert footage using cinema reverse telecine, removing pulldown for true 23.98. In this, I would also like to retain as much as possible in the bin organization and sequences with edits.

The approach so far is to copy all files to new harddrive, Remove pulldown from files, but keep same clip names. Copy the Original FCP 29.97 Browser info, such as bins, sequences, etc. onto new harddrive with 23.98 sequence project. Next, reconnect 23.98 media on the new harddrive with the new 23.98 project.

Is this a logical and efficient approach, or is there an easier way to do this. Also what about copying EDLs and transferring the 29.97 edits to the new 23.98 sequences.

I know its a lot. Any help appreciated.

Why do you want to remove the pulldown? Did you edit in a 29.97 sequence? If so, then the video would look exactly the same on a TV set if you went through the effort of doing the removal. In either case the video is displayed at 29.97.

Course, if you want to print to film… there’s a reason to remove the pulldown… other than that if your program is really long it will allow you to use a higher bit rate for a DVD and still fit. But there is no reason at all to remove the pulldown otherwise.
