transfering projects
Hello All:
Looking for some advise to work around a series of system mishaps. We currently have 2 Final Cut Pro stations hooked up to 2 different servers, but set up as independant work stations (don’t ask why, the editors don’t know either. Is there a way of moving projects (saved to the computers drives, with content on the 2 different servers, to the other computer without losing render information.Our HD footage is ingested into a Harris Server and accessed in the FCP rooms, we have an X-San that is used for graphics only and has all sorts of permissions. Engineers do not want to use X-san for projects storage even though it is accessible for either room. Currently we are saving projects in the a drive and backing up in the b drive. On the occasion when A project is moved from the rooms, we lose all renders, and have some reconnection issues.
Any thoughts would be great.
We are going to experiment with using the Harris Server for project storage.

No. Because render files are…well, pseudo physical things. They are files that are stored on a hard drive. If you move the project to another computer that has a separate drive, then the render files don’t accompany it.
If you want to have no reconnection issues, then you need to have both sets of drives named EXACTLY the same thing, and have the EXACT same file structure. If you want to move the project from machine to machine, you will also have to copy over the render files and put them in the exact same place as they are stored on the original machine. Sorting by date and time makes this easier.
