  • Transfering Graphics over from Mac based Avid to 1.5

    Greetings,
I am taking over a project from another editor and he created a graphic opening to the project as well as some other graphic elements. These are currently on a Mac Based Avid Xpress pro system. What is the best way to import them so they can be most fully utilized and manipulated like with a cross dissolve? The editor is of minimal help as he is one of those that believes all non Avid equipment is worthless. Premiere Pro will do fine on this project, I just need to import these graphics. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Thank You for your input!

Are these graphics solid graphics – slates, pictures, images, etc? Or do they contain transparencies that need saved – lower thirds, bugs, etc? Were they created in the Avid title tool, marquee? What is their origination? HD, SD?

From my experience working with Avid and trying to get things out of the “Avid world” into a non-Avid editor, you’re best option is exporting out of Avid as a TIFF image. You’re next best option is Quicktime movies, then DV movies. (DV movies will have to be converted to AVI movies using Quicktime Pro or something similar to get them to work in PPro.)

Trying to preserve transparency will probably require using a chroma key or something similar in place of all the transparent places – put a green still image underneath the graphics and then export. This may be difficult to work with depending on how clean you can get the chroma key to work and look, but it’s an option.

Post some more info and I’ll see if I can help some more…

These graphics are animated for the most part. Some are lower thirds that would require transperancy and some as in the opening/ closing are full screen. I appreciate your assistance.

What program were the graphics created in – Avid 3D, Avid FX, Avid Xpress “Marquee” tool? Do you have access to the original project files?

Seems to me that chroma key may be the simple way to do it. Run some tests with that and see how far you can get it to go.

Let me start by saying thank you. I have not done any serious cutting in over 6 years and your responses are helping me to think in the right direction. I am trying to get more info and access to the graphicx and when I do I will post again.

    Thank You for your input!
