  • Transfering files from Firestore ProHD Dr-H100

Posted by Wolfgang Shumacher on October 11, 2006 at 1:11 am

I have problems opening the .M2t firestore files it created in my FCP. They are rejected as files unknown. I could open and play the same files on an Adobe Primiere system.
What am I doing wrong here? The footage was recorded in HD 720/30.

You need to have the Firestore prep these files as P2. The manual explains this. If you don’t do this, FCP cannot read the files.

I see you are refering to the DR-HD100 for JVC’s HDV camera. get your information here:

Always read the manual first then post to the Cow if you are having problems.

AFAIK there should be a recommended workflow for the Firestore at their site.

But in case not, you can use the free MPEG Streamclip to convert the transport stream to something FCP can handle.

Use MPEG Streamclip to save the M2T files to media drive as Apple HDV 720p (24 or 25 etc) Quicktime files. They can then be loaded direct into FCP project (use Easy Set Up HDV 720p (24 or 25 etc). MPEG Streamclip is a free download from Apple.

Thanks Phil for your wonderful help. I , of course, had read the manual and couldn’t find help. Your advice helped to solve the problem. Also, Focus notified me that my Firestore should haven been updated in the factory and offered software to make it not unnecessary to download Apples solution.

Steve I always read the maual before I bother people like yourself. I went to the same website you directed me to long before I posted my question. IT wasn’t very helpful and didn’t show a practical solution for my problem. Although I might have overlooked it. In the meantime, Focus apologized for having send me a device, which was not updated to produce FCP files. A software fix will be send. I am glad there is a solution to the problem.
While I appreciate that you took the time to reply, it was not necessary to reprimand me in this forum for my question. This forum should be big enough to take all questions…even if they appear dumb to you.
After all, nobody is forcing you to answer them.

FYI, while MPEG Streamclip is free and an excellent program, it’s not from Apple.

It’s from a talented Italian programmer and you can find it here: http://www.squared5.com .
